In 2011, Beach Retreats, the self-catering property arm of the Watergate Bay Group, approached us to create a publication that would promote the unique nature of the Cornish lifestyle to their customer database, encouraging them to holiday in the county and consequently boosting their bookings.
They wanted to position Beach Retreats as a knowledgeable friend, giving customers the inside track on just what makes Cornwall special in an evocative, engaging and irresistible way. The publication would work alongside their existing property brochure and be sent out to their 10,000 strong customer database, three times a year.
We suggested creating an editorial-style seasonal guide to Cornwall packed with interesting, unique features that not only promoted what Cornwall has to offer year-round, but intrinsically linked Beach Retreats with that special Cornish way of life. We knew that striking the balance between an editorial flavour and promotional content would help readers connect with what they were reading, finding the guide valuable and identifying Beach Retreats as the brand that has the insight and approach they need, if they choose to holiday in the county.
And so Seascape was born.

Designed by Beach Retreats’ inhouse team, we editorially plan, write and produce each issue, coming up with the theme, feature ideas and content. By drawing on Stranger Collective’s bazaar of talents, we then commission and produce photoshoots, compile photofeatures and work with our writers to inject life and pace into every page.
Since the first issue was published in spring 2011, Beach Retreats has seen its best year of bookings ever.
