Creative Breakfast X Watchful Mary: Cathy Galvin + Nathan Mayne

We're taking our popular Creative Breakfast on tour again – this time to Watchful Mary, on the sea wall at Watergate Bay. Hear from Word Factory founder Cathy Galvin and Astrophysicist Nathan Mayne, as you gaze out over the waves.

Our Creative Breakfasts are the fuel that keeps the Stranger studio firing; a healthy measure of inspiration to kickstart the day.

This March, we’re taking to the road again and bringing a slice of the early morning action to our north coast friends at Watergate Bay. Come and enjoy delicious coffee, next-level pastries, mindblowing ocean views and thought-provoking chat to fire up those creative synapses.

Cathy Galvin

Journalist and poet Cathy Galvin, joins us to discuss all things life-writing and how she formed The Word Factory whilst working as a senior editor for the Sunday Times Magazine. In 2013 she set up the organisation, to promote excellence in short story writing, bringing together the best short story writers for readings, masterclasses and to share new work, all to build a supportive community of writers from every walk of life.

Nathan Mayne

Senior lecturer in astrophysics at the University of Exeter, Nathan Mayne’s research takes him to other worlds. Specialising in exoplanets – planets orbiting a star other than the sun – he’s worked with the Met Office to model the weather on different planets, linking his current research to the changing climate back home. Set on sharing his adventures into outer space, he’s appeared on the BBC’s Stargazing Live with Brian Cox, given TED talks, and taken over 8 million people on a virtual tour outside our solar system, working with Cornish filmmakers Engine House on an out-of-this-world simulation.

Tickets are £5 and include a coffee and pastry.
