Help us reach the right businesses: freelance PR support for Pitch Up! 2025

By: Helen Gilchrist,   3 minutes

We’re looking for a freelance PR consultant or publicist who can help us get in front of the right businesses – specifically, sustainable, values-led SMEs who are ready to grow and could benefit from land, materials or collaboration with organic/ regenerative farms across the UK.

Deadline to apply: Midnight on Friday 29th August

You’ll use your strong contacts in UK business and enterprise media (print, online, broadcast, podcast) to land coverage in outlets our target applicants read, listen to, or follow. This is not a general awareness or farming comms brief – we already handle that. What we need is press that gets the attention of:

  • Entrepreneurs and founders of early-stage or growing sustainable businesses (specifically food, drink, sustainable product & design, fashion & textiles, retail etc – but also other sectors that would benefit from a connection to the land)
  • Purpose-led SMEs looking to expand/ scale up, relocate or diversify
  • Circular businesses needing land or raw materials
  • Regenerative and food system innovators, and sustainable business networks
  • Business leaders who are values-driven but commercially minded

What you’ll do:

  • Review background materials and take part in a kick-off call to align on targets and messaging
  • Review our press releases and pitch materials, tailoring as needed for business press / specific publications
  • Use your contacts to land stories, interviews and features that reach the right audience (case studies and spokespeople available)
  • Pitch speaking opportunities at relevant SME, food, sustainability and rural business events
  • Delegate image sourcing and writing tasks/ other asset creation as needed, to Stranger Collective‘s specialist team
  • Provide regular status updates with leads, placements and feedback

Who we’re looking for:

  • You have direct press relationships in UK national or regional business media and organisations/ networks
  • You know how to spot the hook that will interest entrepreneurs and SME owners
  • You can get coverage in places like: BusinessDesk, The Grocer, Courier, Monocle, Sifted, Startups.co.uk, Entrepreneur, Business Live, FT, The Times Enterprise Network, industry podcasts, or relevant local/regional business titles
  • You may also have SME event or podcast connections that could open up new speaking platforms

About Pitch Up!

Pitch Up! is a farmer-led movement connecting businesses with land, materials and resources to spark circular enterprise communities. Businesses apply through a national campaign (applications open in November, but expressions of interest encouraged all year) to work with regenerative or organic farms across the UK.

Read more about Pitch Up!.

From one partner farm in 2021, Pitch Up! grew to six in 2024, with nine in place for 2025. We help matchmake farms with a range of businesses, for example::

  • A distillery using surplus fruit
  • A food producer using heritage grain
  • A micro-tannery using waste hides
  • A cut-flower grower working with existing infrastructure

These businesses can thrive because they don’t have to buy or rent land outright – they’re given access to space and resources that allow them to grow. Pitch Up! makes that possible.

Working with us

We’re a small, collaborative team who’ve been building Pitch Up! since day one. You’ll work closely with us and our Partner farms to shape the right approach.

We’re working to tight budgets as Pitch Up! is growing organically, with each farm contributing to the shared pot for running the campaign. As such, we have a fixed fee of £1,500  in place for this collaboration, which we’d discuss with you to see how you’d make it work for maximum impact/ efficiency. You’d be supported by the Stranger Collective and Sound Bite teams, who deliver the strategy, messaging, content creation/ campaign assets and further outreach.

As the fees are limited, this collaboration would suit someone who shares Pitch Up!’s values and purpose, and is keen to bring their experience to the mix to help amplify the reach and impact as Pitch Up! grows. We see this as the beginning of a longer-term relationship, with the potential for more work and a bigger scope/ budget in 2026.
