What do you bring to a project that no one else does?
Seeing connections. I love working with words and ideas. But I’m a visual thinker too, from my background in journalism, photography, and editing and publishing independent magazines. I’m always thinking about how to bring an idea to life in a way that will engage, inspire, move or entertain people. And because of this, I love thinking about the bigger picture, and who we can collaborate with to make it happen.
What’s the best bit of advice you’ve ever been given?
“Every problem is an opportunity” – a deeply engrained mantra, which came from my dad. I see it again and again – whether it’s the way limitations can fuel creative ideas in unexpected ways, or having to think on my feet to solve problems fast. I don’t love problems, of course, but with hindsight I can usually see how having to adapt opened up interesting new opportunities and directions.
What’s something outside of work that shapes how you think?
Movement, outside! Whether it’s floating around out back in the surf, running along the clifftops where I live, or pedalling through the lanes – getting moving, changing things up and gulping in fresh air seems to unlock my best ideas, clearest thinking and connecting unexpected concepts/ people/ possibilities.
